Animal Profiling International (API) announces launch of Mastitis PCR diagnostic service for use in Dairy Industry
PORTLAND, Oregon – Animal Profiling International (API), a company dedicated to the improvement of animal health management and food safety through the application of technology solutions, has formally announced the launch of a new diagnostic product designed to detect mastitis-causing pathogens in dairy herd milk samples. The quick and accurate results this product generates will aid in reducing the losses, currently estimated at over 2 billion USD, the dairy industry currently endures as a result of Mastitis.
Mastitis, a potentially fatal mammary gland infection is both the most common and costly disease in dairy cattle in the United States. The disease in cattle is defined as the persistent, inflammatory reaction of the udder tissue and occurs when white blood cells are released into the mammary gland, usually in response to an invasion of bacteria.
“Adding the Mastitis PCR profiling test to our line of products gives our dairy clients an advantage in working with the same company they value and trust for BVD and blood pregnancy testing,” said Bruce Hoffman, API President.
Ray R. Rogers, API’s Chairman and CEO adds, “API is continually looking for new products to further improve the health of our clients’ animals which in turn improves the strength and well-being of their operations and industry as a whole.”
API’s industry experts provide the products and services that operators in the beef, dairy and food supply industries need to make their jobs more efficient and profitable. The company has tested over 2.5 million head of cattle and dairy animals for BVD and currently services clients in over 40 U.S. states. In addition to BVD and mastitis testing, the company also provides diagnostic services for the detection of Bovine Leucosis Virus (BLV), Johne’s disease and pregnancy in cattle and PRRS in swine.
